Photographs

Marco Glaviano was born in Palermo, Sicily in 1942.
In 1967 he started his career in Photography, after moving briefly to Rome, then to Milan, where he established a studio for eight years.
His photographs began appearing in the best European fashion magazines.

In 1975 he decided to move his atelier and residence in New York City where he was soon under exclusive contract for American Vogue.
Marco has continued to photograh fashion and beauty for the leading Amercian European magazines and though these mediums has achieved statuts in the fashion industry as one of the top Photographers in the world, having photographed more that 500 covers and editorials for the most pretigious publications.

In 1975, he visited St.Barth for the first time and fell in love with this Island’s beauty. Soon he made it his second residency and has remained "Addicted" to St Bart’s ever since. The island environment has become in his work a metaphor to the Woman’s beauty. Over half of his most famous photographs were shot with models in St Barth.

In the eighties in collaboration with Elite founder John Casablancas and Eliste president Monique Pillard, he was influential in developing the supermodels phenomenon and was chosen by Elste agency and by supermodels Paulina Porizkowa, Cindy Crawford and Eva Herzigova to photograph all of their famous swimsuit calendars.

In 1995, Marco designed and founded Pier 59 Studios in New York wich is still today recognized as the most important photo studio in the world.

Marco Glaviano is also a pionneer in the the use of digital photography. His early and still strong interest in the then new digital photography evoluion led him to publish the first ever digital picture in American Vogue in 1982. Marco Glaviano has been a consultant for Kodak, Fuji, Hasselblad, Phase One, Sinar and Scitex to advance the cause of digital Photography.
In 2001 he developed with partner Tommy Wirz, Milanostudio in Milan, which is a showcase for the new digital photo Frontier.

His has published to date ten books composed of his personal photographs of the most famous models of the last decades and his other passions, jazz, portraits and architecture.
Glaviano has had nine solo exhibitions in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Milan, Palermo and Capri. His artwork is part of many important private collections worldwide.

His interests in film and video have him to direct a number of TV commercials and short verson music, fashiion and beauty films for Amerca and Europe.

Marco has three daughters, Barbara, Alessia, and Adrianna, and best dog mr. Bentley. He currently lives and work between New York and Milan.
